There shines a star

I pose to you this question: is an easy test better or worse than a hard one in a competitive situation?

Most would say that having an easier exam would be clearly better, but think about it; everyone else is doing the same test as you, and in a selective high school, most of them would be smarter than you too. This means that all scores would be within a thin band, and any advantage is more attributable to luck than study, as well as the fact that I would be at the bottom of said band, even if I was in the top area of overall marks. This has the effect of shaking up rankings like snow in a globe.
