It's flamebaiting time, as I step onto the bloodsoaked battleground of the Mac/PC debate and fire indiscriminately in all directions. In response to a post on facebook, I had this to say:
Macs and PCs appeal to different demographics. They do different things. Some people only use their computers for word-processing and web-browsing. Some of those same people want a simpler, easier to use system, so they don't need to dig through a mountain of crap to get to the two programs they use. Apple caters for these people.I'm fully aware that my 'flamebaiting' is another man's 'polite conciliation,' but more to the point, I am the sort of confrontative, don't-care-about-your-opinion blogger who says such divisive, partisan stuff. While shooting bad-guys with my free hand, skiing down a glacier while pronouncing the word Eyjafjallajokull. Under Eyjafjallajokull. Yeah.
And it doesn't hurt that Apple encases it's computers in sleek, simple, smooth, non-threatening cases - a design that reflects their philosophy in OS construction as much as their exteriors. It promises simplicity and focus of purpose, which is what some people look for in their computers.... See more
This doesn't mean that they're less computer literate, or less intelligent. Many of the most intelligent and all-round awesome people in the world - like Stephen Fry - have Apple products.
BUT: Microsoft and the Windows series is for a wider demographic. It seeks to please everyone by allowing functionality for everyone. The problem with optimising for all sorts of programs is that some of those legitimate programs need access to the important bits, so Windows has holes all through its security - which lets through viruses, slows down operations, leads to breakdowns. Windows is the Jack of All Trades at the cost of being everyone's bitch, and being a bitch in itself.
And before anyone brings up Linux: if there is a spectrum between simplicity and functionality, Linux is a speck on the horizon - if you can figure out how to turn it on.
So the whole debate is pointless, because if you don't like the other guy's OS, that's because they were aiming at him, not you. Complaining about using a Mac when you use Windows is like complaining about how uncomfortable bras are when you're a man.

What the fuck? Since when were Macs easier to use than PC's? They basically took everything that the PC invented (Double clicks, alt+ctrl+del, right click) and messed it up.
They never heard of 'If it ain't broken, don't fix it'.
Its not that it's more difficult, its that you aren't used to it. Ever tried using someone elses phone, and the layout's all different? Yeah. Its not specifically that your phone is better, its that you know where everything is and how to use it.
Also, the first mouse and keyboard set up - the one that pioneered like, everything you know of interfaces - was the 1984 Macintosh.
One could argue that the PC took everything that the Mac invented (Single clicks, apple button+del, some third thing) and messed IT up.
Mind you, I've never used a Mac in my life. I'm just not using that as evidence that they're bad.
